I was over the moon to be invited to the Grand Opening of the Play at Brewers Fayre area of the Old Brickworks in Bradford. We got there very easily from the M62 using our satnav and found a space easily in the spacious car park. My daughter (aged 9) and twin boys (aged 2½) were delighted to see Dennis the Menace standing outside the venue when we arrived. The kids had their picture taken with him. Upon entering the restaurant it struck me how lovely it looked. We were greeted by friendly members of staff and shown to the new play area. We had pre-ordered our food and I thought it was a lovely touch that they double checked our order. All 3 children thoroughly enjoyed trying out the huge play structure. My twins particularly enjoyed colouring in pictures in the activity room. My daughter had her face painted as a unicorn. The layout has clearly been well thought out with handy shoe storage cubby holes underneath the seating areas. There are plenty of tables and chairs to have a drink and snack or even a meal within the play area itself. One of my twins tended to stick to the toddler area which had a lovely slide in. The other went off happily with his big sister to explore the part of the play area for older children.

All of the staff we came across could not be more helpful and were clearly enjoying their jobs. The toilet facilities at the play area end of the establishment, whilst small, were clean and tidy and handily situated. Drinks and snack prices were as you would expect and reasonably priced. Around midday, we were asked if we would like to be put in the food queue and have our lunch brought out. We sat at a lovely table. Staff were great and brought over 2 highchairs for our twins.

Our drinks came quickly followed by our main courses. The twins had chicken breast, peas and chips and my daughter had poppin chicken, beans and chips. The food was lovely and warm but not too hot that it took ages to cool down enough for the children to eat it. I had smothered chicken, salad, coleslaw and chips and the other adult in our party had fish and chips. All of the meals had decent portion sizes and were hot and tasty. The staff were great at checking that all was ok with our meal without being too intrusive. We then had a short break before enjoying our desserts. The children had brownie and ice cream and the adults had chocolate fudge cake with cream.  Whilst we were at our table a lovely man came around and the children could each choose a cuddly toy. We opted for Dennis the Menace (who one of my twins had been following around all morning), Gnasher and Banana Man. Dennis the Menace and Gnasher walked came over to our table at lunchtime to the children’s delight. After a morning packed with fun and delicious food we headed home.

The play area costs £3 for 1.5 hours which I feel is excellent value for money.

The Old Brickworks is a fun place to visit, is clean and the quality and value of food is excellent.
