As children get older, they get more adventurous! It is often hard to keep up with them, but one thing we can do is ensure that they are safe in all adventures they want to take.

Children are using bikes and scooters more and more to get about. It gives them independence and it gives them confidence to do the things they want to do. Even though Tilly (aged 5) can’t ride a bike, she is always whizzing about on her scooter and for her own safety I make sure she wears a helmet all the time.

22% of all UK cycling casualties are under 16 and wearing a helmet will reduce the chance of your child suffering a head injury, should they be involved in an accident. As kids get older they dislike wearing helmets as they are not cool, but when you get helmets like the range from ‘Raskullz’, then your kids are bound to wear their helmet without a fuss.

RaskullzPonyHelmetTilly is Pony mad and she was thrilled to receive the Raskullz Pony Helmet to try out. It is so girly and she loved the 3D design of it – in fact she is the envy of her friends. The helmet is lightweight (weighing 2lbs) and the shock-absorbing EPS inner shell protects your child’s head. The helmet also has aerodynamic cooling vents keep your head feeling fresh and hopefully sweat free. Not only does this helmet offer protection, but also encourages imagination within a child. This is available at Argos for £22.99. Tilly loves this helmet, I do insist she has a helmet on, even if she is playing scooter in the garden. She loves pretending she is a pony whilst on her scooter, It is so nice to have a child who WANTS to wear her safety helmet rather than having a battle to get her to wear a helmet. This was very comfortable and fitted her perfectly.

We were also sent a Razor Scooter and another helmet for Tilly’s friend Jacob.

The scooter is the Razor S Sport and will encourage your kids to be active whilst they can have some fun. The range comes in bright colours and we were sent the blue one to try out. We took it out of the box and it was put together within minutes by Jacob who is 11 years old. It is sturdy and when you’re not using it, it folds up small for storage or to pop it in the boot of the car. You could even put this in a bag as it is very compact when folded. The scooter has a brake at the back that they use with one of their feet meaning they can stop in an instant. The scooter carries the distinctive Razor logo so you know it original. The scooter weighs 2.5kgs so it is light enough for a child to carry and for extra safety, it has a slip free foot plate, so there will be no slipping about whilst the child is riding the scooter. This scooter is designed for people over 6 years old and people weighing up to 100kgs can use it. This scooter is not only fashionable and stylish but its safe (as long as it’s used responsibly). It goes fast and is easy to brake with. Over the years all four of my children have had scooters and this is the best yet! This scooter is available for £34.99 at Argos and comes in a variety of colours to suit your child.

MohawkHelmetOf course whilst out on the Razor S Sport scooter, Jacob wore a safety helmet. He was sent a Krash Cube Hurt Black Mohawk Helmet. This is the coolest helmet for a pre-teen and a child in their early teens, As children get older they don’t think it’s cool to be safe and quite often they feel almost embarrassed to wear a safety helmet, yet with Krash Cube Hurt Black Mohawk Helmet you will find your child is more than happy to wear a helmet. Suitable for children 8 and over, it has 7 air holes to allow your head to breathe and help prevent your head from sweating as much. It has adjustable straps and a quick release buckle in case you need to get the helmet off in a hurry. It has a shock absorbing inner shell for extra protection and you can feel at ease knowing your child is wearing one of these helmets. This is available in Argos for £24.99. Jacob loved this helmet, he found it easy to wear and enjoys wearing it when he rides his bike. The colour is very manly and the Mohican is trendy.

You really can’t put a price on safety when it comes to your children.
