I was eager to review this film as from what I had read it was a well-made and hard hitting movie.

The movie which is based on the 1988 Ouvéa cave hostage taking in New Caledonia mainly revolves around the main character Philippe Legorjus (played by Mathieu Kassovitz) who is the captain of an elite counter-terrorism police unit who is forced into a moral dilemma following the hostage taking, the film follows him through the movie while he tries to defuse the situation and negotiate the release of the hostages, without any bloodshed. While trying to deal with the 300 gun-ho French army soldiers and the politicians who are portrayed as very self-serving.

I did enjoy the film although it did seem one sided and may have been better to be slightly more unbiased. I found the cinematography was amazing especially in the battle scenes. I think Mathieu Kassovitz portrayed the character of Philippe very well and really drew me into his story as it unfolded. I myself did not have an issue with the subtitles as I am used to movies with them in but anyone not familiar could find it hard to read and watch the movie simultaneously.
