We were at the Lowry Theatre tonight for this performance. Getting to the Lowry is quite easy as its well sign posted from the motorways and has plenty of parking, which if you eat or drink in any of the many bars and restaurants around the theatre they will validate your ticket for 4 hours of free parking. There are currently some renovations going on creating a new restaurant and bar within the theatre. Staff cannot help enough and there are plenty of areas to get refreshments.
Rob Beckett is a kinda funny looking cockney lad and whose mouth does seem to be too big for his face. His monkey face and the story of how trying to explain to his new wife that yes indeed he had spent the whole day while she was working perfecting it was side splittingly funny. There was no real “theme” to the show, it was a very organic performance in true stand up style of just moving from one topic to another. Starting with Rob making fun of some late comers and then picking on them periodically throughout the whole show. There were lots of audience interactions, especially with the few couples who were newly married. He was hilarious when talking about how not to eat a 4 finger KitKat, and how in-laws Christmas days are never done right compared to your family day, I’m certain no two shows will be the same. I really wasn’t sure if I would find him funny as a) I didn’t really know who he was and b) it was my son who wanted to see him, but I have to say that by the end of the show I was crying laughing. His stories were all relevant and the audience totally related to them. It was also funny how he was so easily side tracked into talking about something completely off topic.
The show had a 20 minute interval but this didn’t affect how well things flowed. After the show as we were leaving Rob was waiting to speak to his fans and was more than happy to have pictures taken which was a nice touch. Would definitely go and see him again.
Absolutely 5 out of 5 stars, highly recommended.
