I was delighted to be asked to review ‘Santa Claus and the Night Before Christmas’ at G Live in Guildford as we had seen last year’s production and had thoroughly enjoyed it. This year’s tale involved the familiar characters of Muffin the Bear, who helps guide Santa, the two elf helpers Kara and Charlie, a new character Sophie (a girl who doesn’t believe) and of course Santa himself!

It’s always a pleasure to attend shows at the G Live. The theatre used is not too large, so it feels safe and non-threatening to the younger members of the audience. You really feel part of the story, especially as the scenery is close enough to touch and the interaction with the audience and special effects, magic tricks and songs really bring the story to life. In this year’s tale it’s Christmas Eve and whilst most children are hanging up their stockings, there are a few boys and girls who are not! They don’t believe in Santa and with Christmas morning fast approaching cheeky elves Charlie and Kara must help Santa prove that he is indeed real!

My kids loved it, although my 3 year old was initially very reluctant to take her seat, worrying about meeting Santa. The G Live staff were on hand to reassure her and offer helpful suggestions to relax her enough so that we could take our seats and enjoy the show. She soon relaxed and happily joined in with all the magic, helping to make bubbles appear and throwing snowballs at Santa who had managed to wedge himself in a chimney! Our favourite parts were again the magic tricks from Santa and the magic spells that resulted in snowflakes falling from the ceiling! Overall we had a great time.

As an added Christmas treat, all of the good boys and girls in the audience are encouraged to come up to the stage and meet Santa after the show and receive a special present of their own.

I find the G Live a great venue as there is reasonably priced onsite parking, a lovely cafe and restaurant within the G Live itself, serving a good variety of menu options for all the family. As it is situated on the high street you have an abundance of restaurants within a few minutes walk.
