A non-stop, all singing, all dancing spectacular for all ages.

We watched the show at the Grand Theatre & Opera House in Leeds. The Grand is based in Leeds City Centre so easily accessible by car or public transport. There is plenty of payable car parking nearby. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

I took along my 7-year-old twin girls who as fans of the Shrek film were so excited to see the show. They definitely were not disappointed and had smiles on their faces throughout. The plot revolves around loveable ogre Shrek. In order to reclaim his beloved swamp he takes on a quest to save Princess Fiona who is locked in a tower. The tower is protected by a fire breathing dragon. Along the way he meets up with a sassy donkey who becomes his sidekick on the quest. The tale twists though when Shrek falls in love with Princess Fiona and Princess Fiona has a secret of her own.

The overall cast was outstanding. Steffan Harri as Shrek and Laura Main as Princess Fiona have outstanding voices. Samuel Holmes as Lord Farquaad and Marcus Ayton as Donkey simply stole the show. Their performances were so vibrant, witty and humorous especially as Samuel as Lord Farquaad performed most of the show on his knees! The music was witty and catchy and backed up by some amazing dance performances.

You were transported from Shrek’s swamp, to Lords Farquaad’s castle, to Princess Fiona’s castle in seconds by use of clever scenery and special effects. The sets really brought the performance alive.

My girls loved the flatulence contest between Shrek and Princess Fiona which had everyone laughing out loud, especially the children in the audience. They were mesmerised when the dragon appeared. The puppetry used to move the dragon around the stage was fantastic to watch and one of the highlights of the show.

A spectacular all cast performance of I’m a Believer ended the show on a high with the audience clapping and singing along.

My girls have already asked when we can go see it again!

Rating: 5/5
