The sleepy village of Eddlesborough near Leighton Buzzard hides an exciting secret in the form of Silver Arrow Archery Club.

Silver Arrow was established in 2007 by Sue Matthews, a level 2 Archery Coach working alongside Mike Philliskirk. Both Archery Leaders shooting at County Level, they have over 20 years experience between them of all things archery.

As a visitor you can feel assured, whether you have a general interest in archery or want to progress to a national standard, that the team at Silver Arrow will listen and guide you in a professional and friendly manner.

Silver Arrow prides itself on catering for all bow types including recurve, American Flat Bow and Horse Bow (not Crossbow) shooting mainly target archery on their private field and indoor ranges. The club is family friendly with parties and equipment offered to children aged 10+. One to one coaching is also available and all members are entitled to enter tournaments held at the club.

If you're thinking of archery as a hobby but not sure how far you want to take the sport, tasters are available by appointment costing £15 per head. For those with a creative flare you can also opt to make your own English Longbow with courses run twice a year at £300.00 per head.

I first tried my hand at Archery in February when I purchased a taster session at Silver Arrow, but decided to take some time to decide which bow was right for me after attending the beginner’s course in May. I have an underlying medical condition which causes muscle weakness and so was worried this would impact my ability to shoot effectively and confidently given the weight of some of the bows. Both Sue and Mike were patient, able to reassure me and accommodate my needs; my final decision resting happily with a light weight Horse Bow which I purchased in June.

I was particularly impressed with Mike's enthusiasm for helping me find the right bow whilst taking in to account my physical needs and limited budget. Now a member of Silver Arrow, I visit their range at least twice a week, I have made new friends and am developing my technique slowly but surely.

If you are looking for a fresh challenge, a new hobby or just a new social circle, I highly recommend Silver Arrow Archery to meet your needs.
