It’s coming to that time of year again and Christmas is fast approaching. That means mince pies, running out of Sellotape, and of course, panto season. Last night, me and my children went to see Theatre Royal Windsor’s famous traditional pantomime. This year it is Sleeping Beauty, staring the most wonderful cast which includes Basil Brush (Boom Boom), Denise Pearson from 5 Star, Jenny Ryan from The Chase and Mike Read from Top of the Pops. Nurse Paloma Pinchme, played by Steven Blakeley who is also the writer of the show, was absolutely the funniest part by far.
Megan Jones played Beauty and her performance was lovely, the modern twist included lots of pop songs and amazing dance routines and the audience was laughing from start to finish. The highlight of the show was the 12 Days of Christmas, where things are thrown into the audience and thrown back again – very very funny.
The set was brilliant, as were the costumes – one of which was a dragon with the voice of Dr. Who’s Tom Baker. The show was hilarious – it looked great, sounded great and the audience engagement was fantastic – exactly what you want and expect from a pantomime. It really put us and the rest of the audience in the Christmas spirit. Oh no it didn’t! Oh, yes it did!
This family panto is running all through December and I highly recommend taking the children for a real feel good night out. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a good pantomime.
