We had a brilliant night at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable, Bedfordshire watching their Christmas pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The audience shouted ‘It’s behind you’ I am sure until they were hoarse. The audience participation was great, I am sure my side of the theatre won the singing competition!
For Charlie Brooks (Janine Butcher of EastEnders fame) this was her pantomime debut playing the evil Queen Ivannah, and like all evil Queens was hated by the audience. Thankfully before the end of the panto Queen Ivannah had mended her evil ways.
My favourites were Richard David-Caine (Herman the Henchman), Joseph Elliott (Muddles) and Will Kenning (Director/Nurse Molly). They were so funny together, feeding off each other but not necessarily keeping to the script. There was plenty of humour between them, some of it adult humour.
Joanna Sawyer (Snow White) with her Prince Charming (Damien Walsh) made a delightful couple who blended well together, especially in their singing.
Ohhhh the seven dwarfs, I loved it as they came marching down the stairs and onto the stage, Brian, Cheeky, Loopy, Groover, Smiler, Sniffly and Sarge. Not the names I remember for the Seven Dwarfs in Snow White, but they all played great parts.
The Villagers were fabulous dancers, and together with the Purple Team of young dancers, plus two Senior Dancers from On Pointe Dance Academy, added to my enjoyment of the show.
All the costumes were very colourful and looked fabulous on stage, from Snow White’s dress to the imaginative outfits worn by Nurse Molly, you really have to see them!
My favourite bit of scenery was the house belonging to the Seven Dwarfs which was wonderful, especially the seven little beds upstairs.
The musicians were really good as they did not drown out any of the singing which sometimes happens.
If you don’t have your ticket already go and get one soon. A really great family panto for both children and adults alike, a great way to start off your Christmas festivities.
Tickets cost from £15.50 to£25.50 (booking fees may apply).
