Spianata Review

Reviewed by Nicola Richardson

Spianata is a sandwich shop with a difference. I visited the one in Hay Hill W1 which is just at the back of Berkley Sq. It specialises in its long flat and delicious roman bread sandwiches. Low in fat and rich in flavour unlike most breads on the market.

Homemade and baked freshly every morning from 3am and filled with fresh ingredients. From a simple Caprese – Mozzarella, vine tomatoes and basil dressed with extra virgin olive oil to a heartier and very popular Bresaola, rucola and parmesan – Cured beef, lemon juice, black pepper, parmesan and wild rocket. I could list all my favourites but we would be here all day.

Sandwiches are lightly toasted which brings out the flavour of the bread and has a light crisp texture and go down great with an Italian style lemonade “Gazzosa” or any of their fruity soft drinks.

Spianata is a venue you could visit every day of the week. With a great variation of delicious sandwiches, hot pastas, salads, soups, coffees and cakes. Hot pastas available were Lasagne, Parmigiana di Melanzane (v) classic and Cannelloni di Ricotta and spinaci. Hot soups are changed daily and are all homemade. Beautiful salads with exciting ingredients again freshly made daily.

I followed my delicious lunch with an exceptionally tasty Latte, nice and strong but not bitter.

Overall I had a great experience; the staff are friendly and knowledgeable on their products. I will definitely eat there again.
