Growing up with two brothers and uncle obsessed with Star Wars I soon began to love it as well, Yoda was my favourite and then as I grew older I become drawn to the Dark Side!

I haven’t seen any of the new productions by Disney so I was a little clueless with how the storylines were developed and who a lot of people were but I was still eager to read the book.

The book tells the story of Kanan Jarrus who is an ex-Jedi since the Jedi were marked for death and forced to flee, the story comes between the Attack of The Clones and a New Hope, just before Rebels the TV show. As the story starts we see Kanan wandering around the galaxy trying to keep alive not concerned about defecting the force until one of his friends dies at the hands of the Empire and he must decide if he will stand or back down against them.

I found the book packed with action and I enjoyed the characters. Hera who comes to help Kanan but has motives of his own was a very interesting character and I was very engaged in trying to find out and guess what he was up to and John Jackson Miller was very good at pacing it so there was always a surprise coming. The book is filled with the typical action you expect from Star Wars between the good and bad guys but I really was drawn to the story, as I was unaware of Kanan having never seeing the TV show he featured in I was a little confused at times but I do believe you can read the book without knowledge of him as long as you have a little Star Wars knowledge. I loved seeing characters I knew such as Emperor Palpatime who is one of my all-time favourites and of course Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The book is original and would apply to fans of the old films as well as new, I feel the book is best suited for older teenagers and upwards purely due to its length but it could be enjoyed by younger children if it was read to them.

I also thought the book cover was very good and eye catching, typically Star Wars, I think it would appeal more to a young fans of the series but I do think all fans should give this book a go! I also believe as I said you could read this as a one of book with a little knowledge of Star Wars and enjoy it.

John Jackson Miller knows what fans want to read and see, I think he is very talented and I look forward to reading more of his books in the future.
