Synopsis: When the Rebellion defeated the Empire at Endor, Leia Organa believed lasting peace was at hand – a hope that now seems all but doomed. In her new role as senator, Leia must grapple with numerous threats to the fledgling democracy – from underworld kingpins, treacherous politicians, and Imperial loyalists to vicious partisan battles with the New Republic itself. Now the Senate desperately seeks a strong political leader to heal the divided galaxy. But as the daughter of Darth Vader, Leia is wary of a single person wielding so much – including herself. Yet it may be her only option. For at the edges of the galaxy, a mysterious threat is growing……

This was the first novel I have read by Claudia Gray whom is Sunday Times bestseller.

I was not sure what to expect when I began reading Bloodline but I found it varied between a political conspiracy and action. Bloodline is the link between the Original Star Wars Trilogy and The Force Awakens.

Bloodline begins with Princess Leia taking on the role as the new Republic Senator where she encompasses a challenging time between the two fractions, the Populists which is Leia’s side and the opposition which are the Centrists.  Gray’s ingenious writing clearly distinguishes that neither side can reach an ideal outcome.

I found the story was told mainly from Princess Leia’s point of view and delves into disposition and lures you into her personal life 24 years since the Return of the Jedi. Whilst reading you are teased about the rest of the Solo family, Luke, Han and Ben and in some ways I wanted to know more.

Ultimately Leia’s origins impacts on everything she does as it casts a dark shadow whilst reflecting on her memories on Darth Vader. This proves successful throughout the novel as you cannot help be enthralled.
