Last night I took my husband and 2 children along to the Grove Theatre in Dunstable to see Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Steve Hewlett, and we really really enjoyed ourselves.

We have visited the Grove Theatre many times, and as always, the theatre was looking very neat and tidy. The staff were their usual friendly self as we went to collect our tickets and were shown to our seats. We were seated in row C, and had a brilliant view. The theatre was filling up with lots of excited families of different age groups, ranging from young children to the elderly.

The show started just after 7.30pm, and opened with a short bit of footage of Steve’s rise to fame on a big screen. Steve Hewlett has been a ventriloquist since the age of 12. Steve shot to fame on 2013’s Britain’s Got Talent, winning over the public vote to become the Wild Card Finalist in the show.

3 dancers, called ‘Arthur’s Angels’, then came on stage and danced for about 5 minutes, just before Steve Hewlett came on stage with his first ever puppet, Arthur Lager. Steve and Arthur had the audience completely fixed and laughing in their seats. Then came on Steve’s singer friend Neil Warner, he was also very good. He sang 4 songs, and had the audience singing and clapping along. As the show went on, Steve continued to bring on lots of his puppets including the very cute and loveable Chii Chii, Silly Sausage the shy pig, Simon Cowell and Pongo the Skunk, as he continued to entertain the audience. Our children giggled all the way through. My husband was a bit sceptical as to how the show would be, but was pleasantly surprised. The interaction between Steve and the audience was brilliant. He was very funny and put on a great show.

The highlight of my 11 year old daughter’s night was meeting Steve after the show in the theatre foyer. Steve was selling DVDs and was happy to sign them. He was very friendly and took the time to chat and have photos done with his fans.

If you get the chance to watch Steve Hewlett on stage go and jump at it, you won’t be disappointed. It was complete entertainment for the whole family.
