In this day and age home security is a big concern. But with the SwannEye HD Security Camera you can relieve some of your fears and can check on your home or office via your laptop or smart phone. You can even listen in and record video and sound.
For review I received the SwannEye HD, a plug & play Wi-fi Security camera (model no: ADS-455). In the box was the camera, stand, power supply, ethernet cable, mounting screws, protected by stickers, user manual and software CD.
Setup was straightforward, easy and only took a few minutes. I started by fixing the camera to the mounting base (which can be used as a standalone base to stand on a flat surface or can be screwed to the wall or ceiling as a more permanent fixture). I then paired the camera with the router by pressing and holding the reset button (also doubles as the WPS button) for 3-5 seconds. If you router is not WPS enabled you can also connect by plugging in the Ethernet cable.
I then installed the SwannEye HD Pro software from the supplied CD and registered for an account. During registration you have to provide the device and verification numbers of the camera which can be found on the bottom of the camera. I also downloaded the SwannEye HD mobile app so that I can view the video through my smart phone while out and about.
Once all setup I was ready to use. I positioned the camera near the door and was ready to use. On logging in to the software from the laptop or phone I could view a live video of everything the camera could see. You can also switch on the listen mode to hear any noise or conversation or you can use the intercom function so that you can speak through the camera (you need to plug in speakers to be able to use this option, these are not supplied). You can also toggle between HD mode or smooth mode (which is great depending on your internet connection). You can even take snapshots or record video to a Micro-SD card (up to 32GB -not supplied), this just slots into the side of the camera.
It also has a motion detector so that if the camera detects movement (you can set the sensitivity) that an alert is send to your phone, you can them take a snapshot or record a video should you wish to. It also works at night due to the infra-red function.
Overall the SwannEye HD security camera is a great little device. It records, has audio so you can hear and be heard, and the HD quality is excellent giving very clear and sharp images.
My only criticisms would be that it isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing camera on the market and I would prefer to have the speaker built in for the intercom function. But other than that the camera is excellent. Easy to setup and easy to monitor from your phone and pc.
At around £110 this compares to other similar cameras on the market and is great value to give you peace of mind for your home security or even if just checking if the kids are home from school or the pets are alright.
