Celebrating 40 years, this Mookie Swingball kit is the best way to have fun in the garden. The classic game comes with two checkered bats and a ball with an all-surface base that can be filled with sand or water. Simple to pack away in the case provided, this special edition set includes a fun additional game. This special edition of Swingball also comes with a tailball attachment included.

I think most people reading this review will know what a Swingball is, and remember it from our younger days, when your Dad was digging a hole in the ground on camping holidays or your back garden to put a metal Swingball poll in for you to hit a ball around. Well it has changed somewhat since then, however the game is the same (and you can now change the ball to a tailball to add to the fun!) and as much fun for adults as children alike.

What does the Swingball actually come with: 2 bats, a pole, tennis ball and tailball all fit inside a square plastic tub which has a carry handle make it easy for transporting (this also turns into the base). The pole can be different heights (although I am not sure it was created for this purpose!) and means that my girls who are 4½ have a lower tennis game than when my husband I play against one another! This truly is a family favourite and gets all generations together, I can imagine in the summer it being a regular as picnics and on our annual camping trip with friends and their families.

The aim of the game is to beat your partner, but for our girls it is great and has helped to improve their hand-eye co-ordination, and ability to take turns and share. They have also played with the game on their own, by practising hitting the ball.

Personally, I am not sure how much the tailball adds to the game, and I quite like the simplicity of this game and the fun it brings every one of all ages.

Swingball has been around for 40 years, and is still as much fun today as it was then. The carrycase can be used as the base, which means Dad no longer has to dig a hole in the ground, as the base is the carrycase, and it takes less than 3 minutes to set up, so no “is it ready yet” chants our delightful children find funny!!

Overall I would give this 4 out of 5, as the base is still quite large and therefore takes up room in a small family car boot.
