The George and Dragon is a former coaching inn with history going back to the eighteenth century and is now part of the Table Table chain of restaurants. It’s situated on Manchester Road inn Altrincham and has a Premier Inn attached, parking and a large beer garden outside.
We walked through the warm and cosy bar area to the restaurant and were seated in a small room of four tables. I love the cosy feel of an original building without all the open plan modifications. The room was clean and beautifully decorated and we were provided with a wooden high chair for our little girl.
There was a new menu starting that day and we were given a recommendation of the day which was nice. We were introduced to the staff on duty that day for us and asked for our drinks order.
We chose the sharing platter to start with garlic bread, breaded mushrooms, chicken goujons, calamari, onion rings with coleslaw and a choice of dips for £8.99.
The food came quickly and it was lovely and fresh, the batter was light and crispy and the coleslaw was fresh and tasted homemade. There was more than enough for two and would have been a perfect starter for even more!
For the mains we chose T-Bone steak which came perfectly rare as ordered with criss-cross griddle lines and was just tender and gorgeous, it came with mushrooms, chips, peas and half a tomato. You could add a sauce, which we did and received a creamy peppercorn sauce. The T-Bone was £16.99 which is a fantastic price and the portions were great.
We also ordered sausages and mash, the three juicy Smithfield sausages were topped with caramelised red onion rings and had a side of green beans. The gravy was really tasty and this was devoured!
All the way through the meal, staff were always in sight, they were so friendly and even took the time to interact with my baby who was also enjoying the food! They really topped off our experience and thank you to all 4 who served us.
To finish our or meal, we ordered crumble and custard and a warm chocolate brownie. The crumble was a massive portion and was devoured! There was a lovely sweet syrup drizzled on the crumble just to add extra decadence and it’s highly rated in my books!
Overall we had a great tasty meal in a very friendly atmosphere with efficient staff. We will be back again and can highly recommend Table Table’s George and Dragon.
