Jo is a French police drama set in Paris about a Criminal Brigade veteran detective who takes on the worst of the city’s murder cases.

Jo St-Clair (Jean Reno ) is a veteran policeman who is trying to get over his drink and drugs addictions since his wife’s death. He has an estranged daughter who comes with her own set of problems that he is trying to rebuild his relationship with and his only friends are a nun, Sister Karyn (Jill Hennessey), and his partner Marc Bayard (Tom Austen).

With 8 episodes in season one Jo investigates murders that have religious meanings, a body found hanging on the Eiffel Tower, a daredevil climber who has had a’fall’, the death of a fighter pilot, a suspicious death in a car fire, the death of an antique dealer, the stabbing of a seemingly innocent economist and a young women found in the Catacombs under the city.

Overall I found Jo to be an addictive police drama (once I got over the fact although it was set in Paris nearly everybody, except Reno, had an American accent). The storylines were well written and different and Reno as a loner cop who is always getting himself into trouble with the powers that be in the department is excellent.

This is a must for crime drama fans set in Paris and featuring great scenery around the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Catacombs and Place Vendome.

Highly recommended.
