The Tech-Too Alphabet Tablet is a basic tablet which through different game modes teaches phonics, letters and spelling. The recommended age grouping for this product is between 3 and 5 and with two children at preschool and one in reception I was interested if this would be a toy they could all share and gain something from.

This tablet on appearance is light and has bright colourful icons and a big plus point for me was once it was removed from the packaging all that was required was to turn on and the product was ready to use. Also a big plus point is that it is very simple to use and from the minute my two three year olds saw it they wanted to play with it and within minutes they had managed to switch the tablet on and were playing the games.

The tablet itself has 4 game modes (that I could find), which was a little disappointing as on the packaging it stated there are 6 games to learn. Along the top of the tablet are the games and underneath are the 26 letters of the alphabet with a lovely illustration to help identify each letter. The 4 modes are Touch a letter, find the first letter of the word, spell the word and touch the letter as quick as you can. My 3 year olds could only grasp the first two games and it was at their level as they are currently learning their phonics at pre-school. While my 5 year old found the first two games boring and was able to play the spelling game and enjoyed the speed touch a letter game.

Initially I was pleased with this product as I saw it as an educational toy which would reinforce learning at home in a fun manner. While this is what it does, I found that with other tablets on the market this product does not have enough variety to hold interest for a period of time, and there is a big difference in the ability of some of the games. While my 3 year olds are happy learning their phonics and letters it is a big jump from doing this to spelling out words.

After happily playing this game when it first arrived the interest level for all three of my children has dwindled. I believe there is a place for this toy but this would perhaps be in a preschool and could be used as an additional learning tool.

Priced at £14.99 this is reasonably priced for what it is however it has limited functions. I would recommend this product for younger children who are starting to learn their alphabet. I wold recommend this product but it is not for everyone as it all depends on the individuals child ability to whether or not this product is suitable.  For this reason I would give this product 3 out of 5 with the emphasis on recommending this for children who are just starting to learn letters and phonics.
