That’s Entertainment is a showtime production with an ensemble of enthusiastic singers and dancers covering big hits from the 40’s and 50’s with Elaine C Smith as the special guest star.
From beginning to end this show is high energy light hearted entertainment. The outfits were as glitzy and glamorous as you would hope – with costume changes for almost every song! The men looked dashing and the woman fabulous in their dazzling dresses as they sang and danced their way through the various much loved classics from this era. With the stage design providing the ideal show time back drop of brightly lit signs.
However it was Elaine C Smith that stole the show with her very funny comic stand up routine. Reminiscing about growing up in Glasgow and her love for musicals, she told stories and sang songs that had the audience in fits of laughter and singing along. She was the perfect guest star for an evening extravaganza in Scotland (and particularly Glasgow).
The Theatre Royal is a modern theatre with a choice of bars on each of the floors and very helpful and friendly staff. Although modern the theatre itself still has the feel of a traditionally old theatre that feels intimate and welcoming. Our seats in the dress circle provided a good view of the stage. The theatre is located in the heart of the city, so easily accessible by public transport with parking available around the theatre. There is also plenty of option for pre/post theatre drinks and food with the variety of restaurants and bars nearby.
I was certainly entertained at Theatre Royal and would recommend the show to friends and family. Giving the production an overall I would give the production 3 stars out of 5.
Tickets cost from £15.40 to £41.40 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
