The Angel & Blue Pig Lymington Review

Reviewed by Kelly Dewey

The Angel & Blue Pig restaurant is situated along the beautifully quaint Lymington High Street. We visited in the evening when the shops were closed but we are definitely planning to come to the area again especially with the marina just around the corner.

The parking was free and convenient, and we got a space right outside. As we walked in we were seen to almost immediately with a warm friendly welcome from the member of staff, who introduced himself and gave us a choice of which table we wanted to sit at. The restaurant looked well decorated and cosy, it had a stylish but traditional pub feel to it.

The waiter gave us the menu, pointed out the specials and gave his recommendations. I must admit it was a difficult choice as every single thing on the menu sounded mouth-watering. It was a very relaxing environment, looking out the window at the passers-by on the high street whilst feeling comfortable and relaxed was very blissful indeed.

I chose the leek and potato soup which came with a dollop of lemon chive creme fraiche in the middle and beautifully baked brown bread. It was soooo tasty and a perfect start. My husband chose the spiced lamb and poppy seed sausage roll with mango chutney… oh my… the flavour of this was exquisite. For main I chose the rump of lamb with the potato terrine and my husband went for the 10oz steak and triple cooked chips, following the waiter’s recommendation. Wow! Both tasted as good as they looked. Usually one of you on the table struck lucky with the best meal but each dish had nothing to fault – both so tasty and the flavours were divine.

It was a beautiful evening so we took the opportunity to take a seat outside in the garden whilst resting our meal down.  It was a lovely area lit with fairy lights and quirky decor. Situated by a pathway leading to another part of the high street again it was blissful to sit and watch the world go by.

For dessert we went for sharing option which gave us quite generous tastes of the profiterole, lemon meringue and chocolate brownie. It was served on a slate board and looked beautiful – it got quite a few comments from the diners around us – we even offered them to pull up a chair and help us out with it! It was succulently sweet, but it beat us! We were beaten… but we’d do it again in a heartbeat.

For an improvement I would say to put the cleaning products from the toilets out of view of the diners – behind a curtained area or away in a cupboard somewhere.

This wouldn’t put me off coming again, in fact I think I need 3 or 4 more visits to try my other top favourite dishes on the menu. I would highly recommend anyone who is visiting Lymington to come in for a meal and even from further afield I would definitely urge them to travel to this wonderful gastro pub situated in a beautiful Hampshire coastal town. A perfect addition to compliment a day’s exploring of the area.
