We were invited to take part in the Beefeater Grill Hungry Games, hosted by none other than Vernon Kay, held at Moor Mill Beefeater in Bricket Wood, Radlett, Hertfordshire (near St Albans), which is a lovely location and has the Mill still working inside the building. Our family of four was also provided with a family room at the adjoining Premier Inn.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which was lovely and clean and very comfortable. We made our way to the pub garden, which has a play area and has the River Ver running through it’s lovely grounds, fed the ducks, had a few drinks and to our surprise we got a text telling us we had £75 in vouchers to collect and spend on food and drinks for the evening which was plenty as the prices and value for money at the Beefeater is great.

We knew another What’s Good To Do family were on their way and looked out for them, our girls become the best of friends and we all enjoyed drinks and got to know each other. We went into dinner and had steak of course and it was delicious. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and the food was amazing. I spotted some other families who were also taking part in the Hungry Games and we all got to know each other. it was a fantastic atmosphere and everyone was happy to be there after entering and winning such a lovely competition. Little did we know how much fun we was about to have.

After a great evening with lovely food and service we headed back to the hotel room. The Premier Inn guarantees a good night sleep and that promise was well kept, we all went out like lights. In the morning we all got ready and went to breakfast and again were very impressed with the service and choice on the menu and kids eat free and as part of our review we did too.

The games team came round and told us the plans for the day and gave all eight family’s their team t-shirts  and then we met our host for the day Vernon Kay. I was impressed with his happy-go-lucky ways and he was very friendly, funny and fit. Vernon Kay is the Beefeater’s Boss of Beef to celebrate 40 years of the Beefeater Grill.

The games: now we all tried our best but there had to be a winner of the grand prize – a 2 week holiday and spending money. We had such fun though playing crazy games like the Wacky Waiter, Blindfold Sundae and a splat game where we had to build the catapult. Unfortunately 4 families were knocked out at this stage but were invited to stay all day and enjoy drinks and to have lunch yet again. Our lunch was fantastic and Vernon Kay joined us all to eat. The staff again were ready with anything we asked got and kept smiling. We had a little time to chill out before heading into the final so the kids went into the park and we tried to work out what we had to do!!!

On to the final. As it happens, it was making a flat packed dinosaur on wheels. I had to ride and we was hopeless, I was knocked out of that round but nobody went away empty handed and we won a weekend away in a Premier Inn of our choice and another £100 in vouchers. The last two families went head-to-head and we all cheered them on.

It was a great family day and the atmosphere was buzzing. The winning family finally made it out of the inflatables in one piece and claimed a great 2 week holiday. All eight teams were happy with their prizes and we all agreed the whole experience was unique and very special – the food, hotel, games, staff and Vernon Kay … what can ever beat this.

We had a great stay at the Premier Inn and great food at the Moor Mill Beefeater Grill restaurant, we would highly recommend them.
