Being a massive fan of the film I have been waiting for this one for quite some time, I was surprised to so many children and young people at the theatre. As always the staff were courteous and the ambience in the theatre was relaxed and friendly.

Even the wording of the theatres advert got me excited

“Attention…! Your attention please… The police, theatres and members of the public are here by warned to be vigilant and on the lookout for two men dressed in black hats, black ties and sunglasses. Otherwise known as The Blues Brothers.”

Based on the iconic 1980 film starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, we followed Jake and Elwood Blue on a wild and eventful tour of the USA, the boys captivated and thrilled the audience with the comedy and the incredible energy and spirit of the Blues Brothers, assisted by the amazing Bluettes, three ladies with sassy attitude and incredible voices encouraged huge crowd interaction. Just like the film, the show is not for the prudish, it unashamedly loud, vulgar and hilarious,

The show featured all the classic hits from the original movie, the all-star band belt out fantastic versions of the classics such as: Jail House Rock, Think, Gimme Some Loving, Minnie the Moocher, Soul Man, Respect, Shake a Tail Feather, the audience appeared to particularly loved Everybody Needs Somebody, with the majority on their feet, dancing and singing along. There was only one scene change was when the Chicago skyline went up to reveal a Union Jack, which seemed to keep the energy going throughout the show, the vocals were all amazing, with a fantastic six piece band and superb lighting this show was certainly a big ball of energy, commanding well deserved standing ovations at the end.

So as instructed by the theatre website:

“Dust off your pork pie hats, dig out your shades, put on your dancing shoes and prepare to party like never before because The Blues Brothers are back in town and request your company for a night of only the best songs, music, moves, thrills and spills this side of Chicago.

P.S. Just don’t tell the Police, OK?”

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
