Written and directed by Joel Hopkins, The Love Punch is a British farce and romantic comedy about a jewellery heist in the South of France. Richard (Pierce Brosnan), a close to retirement businessman who finds out his company has gone into receivership, taking his pension pot with it. Having broken the bad news to his ex-wife Kate (Emma Thompson) they decide to go on a mission to reclaim what is rightfully theirs by stealing a $10m diamond.

Their pursuit takes them to Paris then on to the South of France where they decide they need to rope in some reinforcements in the form of Jerry (Timothy Spall) and Penelope (Celia Imrie), their neighbours from back home. The plot to steal the diamond is so far-fetched that it bordered on plain silliness, from kidnapping some Texans, scuba diving and gate-crashing a lavish wedding, which does somewhat detract from some genuinely funny moments.

Sadly if you have had the chance to watch the trailer for this film you have probably seen the best bits, that being said if you want a bit of light hearted fun and you don’t mind dubious plot lines then this would be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon over the Easter Break

The Love Punch is released in cinemas nationwide on 18 April 2014.
