Let Christmas begin! If you only get too see one Christmas show this year, let it be Birmingham Royal Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker.
Last night we were very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the Birmingham Hippodrome to see Sir Peter Wright’s production of The Nutcracker performed by the Birmingham Royal Ballet. The Hippodrome is a lovely theatre supported by its friendly and helpful staff.
The Nutcracker is a ballet that tells the story of a little girl on Christmas Eve who sneaks downstairs after dark to play with her new nutcracker doll only to be taken on a journey filled with dancing toy soldiers, sugar plum fairies and of course a handsome prince.
The performance was enchanting, spectacular and capturing. Karla Doorbar’s performance as Clara was outstanding. Having said that I couldn’t fault any of the performers tonight from Momoko Hirata as the Sugar Plum Fairy, my daughters favourite, to the students of Elmhurst School of dance. The time flew by we were enjoying the performance so much. A roar of applause after each performance, and a five minute ovation at the end of the show to highlight everyone’s appreciation of their performance.
No ballet performance could go on without the support of the orchestra, and tonight was no exception. It was one of my favourite renditions of the Nutcracker suite.
It’s fair to say we had a wonderful time tonight. Would we go the Hippodrome theatre again and see a show? Definitely yes, we’re planning our next trip, would we see this performance again? Most definitely.
We give Birmingham Hippodrome and The Nutcracker top marks, a magical performance and great for the festive season.
