Me and my daughter went to see The Sooty Show Live at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley, Sussex. I’ve never been to Crawley before so wasn’t sure of the roads but it was so simple to find and plenty of free parking which is rare these days. This was my daughters (4) first trip to the theatre so she was super exited so we went in and brought some sweets and a drink, these were slightly on the dear side but not by much there was also a stall selling Sooty merchandise like puppets and magic wands with flashing lights etc… The show was hosted by Richard Cadell who’s been with Sooty since 1999, originally created by Harry Corbett back in 1948, who has been much loved for years.
This show is all about preparing for a birthday party for Sooty but must get everything ready on time or Mr Slater might give him the sack. I can’t tell you enough how brilliant and funny this performance is and no matter what age you are you’ll definitely find this entertaining with all they well-loved characters such as Butch the Bulldog, Ramsbottom the Snake, Sooty, Sweep and not forgetting Soo. There were plenty of chances for the kids to get involved with cheering and booing, getting up and dancing when the doorbell goes and for some lucky children even the chance to go on stage and help by making the cake or a dance competition with Sooty prizes for participating.
In the 20 minute interval there was a chance to buy some more refreshments and even ice cream before the second act with the last part being just as entertaining as the first half.
I think it’s best to sit in the front couple of rows if possible as this is where you’re more likely to be picked to go on stage but also more chance of getting wet as he does come round with a water pistol getting everyone wet, all the kids were in fits of giggles. They also did some birthday shout outs to children in the audience, I think I heard someone say you can go to their website to request a shout out.
After the show there was even a chance for you to meet and take photos with Richard and Sooty all completely free, you really do get your money’s worth.
The show was enjoyed by young and old I would definitely recommend this to anyone even if like me you don’t really watch it much on television, my daughter can’t wait to see it on CITV now.
