The Valentine’s Day Cat by Sabuhi Gard is based on a true story of when the family pet cat, Jerry, went missing on Valentine’s Day.
It’s Valentine’s Day and Molly is busy in the kitchen creating a romantic meal for her and James when their beloved pet tabby cat comes limping in. He is clearly injured so James decides to take him to the vet to be checked over. Jerry hates the vet, it smells of dogs, so Molly warns James to tie the cat basket door with a piece of string to prevent Jerry from escaping.
James and Jerry have been gone a very long time and Molly receives a dreaded phone call telling her that Jerry has indeed escaped, James forgot to tie the door on the cat basket! Will Molly and James get their romantic dinner for two? Will Jerry return home safe and sound? Or is Valentine’s Day going to be ruined and a day to forget?
Overall this is a short story that all cat and dog owners have probably endured at some time. Children will love the naughty, mischievous cat whose personality shines through and will be hooked until they know what becomes of Jerry.
And with its beautiful illustrations, in watercolours, by Karen Moore children (and adults) will enjoy this delightful story about a missing and stubborn family pet.
