Yesterday evening (Monday 7 August 2017), my husband and I took our 2 children to see the live theatre performance of The Wizard of Oz at The Plaza in Stockport.
The show began with a cheerful song and dance which got my children engaged right from the start. Which is just what you want on a rainy August day during the children’s holidays.
The show depicts the typical story of The Wizard of Oz that we all know and love. The tale of young Dorothy (Maddie Hope Coelho) who is swept to the land of Oz, during a tornado and meets some very interesting characters on her mission to find her way home.
The main star of the show was EastEnders’ Cheryl Ferguson (Heather Trott), who put on a spectacular performance as the Wicked Witch of the West. She really did take on the role with passion.
The show was packed full of funny moments, especially when The Scarecrow (X Factors’ David Heath) and The Tin Man (Phillip McGuinness) came to the stage.
The set design was bright and colourful and designed very well, really setting the scene for the performance.
My son, age 3 and daughter, age 7 were thoroughly entertained throughout the 2-hour performance and really enjoyed all parts of it.
We had a fantastic evening and it was a lovely way to spend one of our days of the summer holidays.
I would give the show 5 out of 5 stars and would highly recommend it.
Tickets cost from £14.30 to £17.6 (booking fees may apply).
