The Courtneys of Curzon Street is part of The British Film Collection and was originally released in 1947 and is shown in black & white.
The Courtneys of Curzon Street follows 3 generations of one family starting from the early 1900s to just after the Second World War. The Courtneys are a well-to-do aristocratic English family and Edward Courtney (Michael Wilding) causes a scandal when he announces that he is to marry his mother’s Irish personal maid Kate O’Halloran (Anna Neagle).
The film then follows 45 years of their lives together (and sometimes apart), their ups and downs, the tragedies and losing all their money.
Overall, I found this to be a quite enjoyable film. Extremely well-acted and although it has been transferred to DVD from the original film elements it has surprising good picture and sound quality.
A love story with tragedy and loss and sticking together through all their problems.
Whether you like love stories, period dramas or good quality cinema this is worth a watch.
