The Croods is an excellent animated family adventure film about a prehistoric family that find their world is about to undergo drastic changes.

The Croods are a family of 6 led by Grug (Nicholas Cage) who live in a dark cave. Grug does not like change or anything new and a result has managed to keep his family alive and are the last of the cavemen. Eep (Emma Stone) is his teenage daughter that likes to explore, find and experience new things, although against her father’s wishes. Grug’s message is fear will keep them alive while Eep and Guy want to follow the sun to find a better way of life.

One night after seeing a mysterious light, Epp decides to leave the cave and follow the light where she discovers a fire (new to the cave dwellers) and a strange boy called Guy (Ryan Reynolds). He tells her he is heading to higher ground as there is a big change to world coming.

After an earthquake destroys their cave the Croods set off with Guy, against his wishes at first, to find a safer land. This adventure is treacherous and as Grug doesn’t like change is the start of an hilarious trek across different landscapes encountering strange creatures.

Overall, The Croods is an excellent animated family film that I thoroughly enjoyed. The animation is superb with some bright and vivid landscapes. The story is great with captivating and engaging characters (from baby to granny) and hilarious with poor old Grug usually on the end of one disaster or another.

A fun, family film that children and adults will enjoy.
