Last night we went to see Thriller Live, a show celebrating the career of The King of Pop Michael Jackson, at the New Theatre Oxford and wow, what a show. From the opening bars it was a musical extravaganza. A kaleidoscopic sensory overload with more sparkles and spandex than you can wave your white gloves at.
In Act 1 we were invited into the 80’s world of disco, retro, glow balls, flashing lights and audience participation, which was fantastic and really got the crowd clapping and tapping their feet. The energy of the singers and dancers was superb, especially Cleopatra and her 3 leading men, you couldn’t fault them.
Act 2 was equally entertaining, covering the 90’s and leading up to the ‘thrilling’ climax of BAD, Thriller and Smooth Criminal. Plenty more audience participation and dancing in our seats, the whole audience was standing for the last 4 songs. The singers and dancers looked like they were having so much fun, and it was equally fun and entertaining to watch, a real ‘thrill’.
Last but not least, Steph and her team at the theatre were very welcoming and all the staff were attentive and pleasant to speak to.
A very good night and highly recommended. Suitable for all ages.
