The Rod Stewart musical, Tonight’s the Night, written by Ben Elton is showing at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking which I always find to be a great venue with friendly staff and a nice new décor.
Tonight’s the Night starring Ben Healthcote as Stewart, a wannabe rock legend who will sell his soul to the devil to be like his idol Rod Stewart is really well written around the songs of Rod Stewart and very clever and funny as I’d expect from Ben Elton. The characters of stoner played by Ricky Rojas and Baby Jane played by Tiffany Graves had the audience in stitches. Stoner is based on Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones and he had the moves like Jagger and the swagger.
I really enjoyed all the rod classics and the choreography by Denise Ranger. The sets were impressive and the costumes sexy.
The 1st act opened and included hits like… You’re in My Heart, Tonight’s the Night, Hot Legs and Baby Jane. After an impressive first half the interval came all too soon. During the interval we had drinks at the bar and it was soon time for act 2 which opened with Maggie May, I won’t tell you about all the songs as it would spoil it but Do You Think I’m Sexy (you bet I do) was fabulous.
Written by Ben Elton who is a multi-award winning novelist, a comedian, an actor and a father along with his many talents. We really enjoyed this production but in my opinion it’s not suitable for the whole family as there was a few risky moments but all in all I would recommend it and rate it 4/5.
Tickets cost from £12.90 to £41.40 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
