A friend and I fancied a City Break in Manchester. We chose a location close to the Trafford Centre. The Travelodge Trafford Park hotel was just a few minutes drive once we got off of the M60 motorway. The hotel had a spacious car park which was free of charge and we managed to park close to the entrance. The Travelodge Trafford Park in situated near the Trafford Centre, Airkix Indoor Skydiving, SEA LIFE, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and Chill Factor (as well as not being too far from The Lowry and Manchester United’s Old Trafford football ground), so is a perfect base for staying in Manchester for the theatre, shopping and attractions.

On arrival, the hotel lobby looked inviting and had some vending machines. The member of staff who greeted us and booked us in was friendly and knowledgeable. There was even a bookcase full of leaflets with places to visit in the area.

The room was basic but nicely decorated and functional with a really comfortable king size bed, tea and coffee making facilities, shower/bath, a set of fresh towels, a small flat screen TV, 30 minutes free WiFi (or £3 for 24 hours). You actually have the option to buy the same bed for at home (Travelodge Dreamer Bed from £289). The bath was not a full-size bath, but it did not stop you from having a nice soak to relax. The bathroom was kept well stocked with toilet roll and hand, hair and body wash. I would have quite liked to have a comfy sofa/chair in the room to relax in.

We decided to drop our belongings off in our room before popping to the local ASDA for some drinks and snacks. The hotel receptionist advised us how long a walk it was, so we decided to drive there. Upon our return, we walked across to the Chill Factor building had a lovely meal and drink in Wetherspoons. After our meal, we went onto the balcony accessible from the Sports bar inside Chill Factore and watched all the skiers and snow boarders in action. We then went back to our room for the evening, had a nice soak in the bath and watched TV before calling it a night.

The staff went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. When we got back to our room we found some beer glasses outside. The next morning, I collected our breakfast from reception. As there is no hotel restaurant, we were given a box containing orange juice, breakfast cereal with milk, a cereal bar, a muffin and a mint. Breakfast is optional and costs £4.95 per person.

A small negative for us were that there were no biscuits in the room to have with our hot drink and the size of the TV we thought was a little too small. That said, these minor things did not stop us having an enjoyable stay. We would recommend Travelodge to our friends and family.

The hotel represents great value for money, especially so when booked well in advance. It’s clean and comfortable. I phoned the day before our stay with a query and staff could not be more helpful and polite. Overall, it was the perfect location to enjoy what the city of Manchester has to offer and just a 10 minute walk to the Trafford Centre.
