Immunity Is The Key To Health!

 

 

You are reading this mainly because your immune system is keeping you healthy.

Hoards of bacteria, pathogens and viruses are being kept at bay by your innate immune system – at this precise moment.

Your immune system has evolved over tens of thousands of years to continuously guard against an onslaught of bacteria and pathogens in (and on) your food and in the air you breathe. [Whilst relatively little is known about the root causes of allergy it has been suggested that TH0 cells (immune helper cells) become subtypes TH1, TH2, TH3 etc.. on the basis of cytokine secretions – given normal activity these are mostly TH1 cells but when activity is low more TH2 cells are created. These sub types are more particular about non-self pathogens and have a tendency to over-react causing an allergic reaction. In the event of a robust pathogen invasion exclusively TH1 cells are created which  get on with the basic task of dealing with any clear and present danger].

It is clear that our immune systems have much less to do in our modern sterilised world. It appears this is making them generally less effective as is evidenced by record levels of illness, absence from work, GP and NHS workloads, the increasing use of (and reduced effectiveness of) antibiotic as well as virtual epidemics of MRSA and C-Difficile in our hospitals.

What can we do? Make sure your diet includes beta-glucan 1-3,1-6 that occurs naturally in mushrooms or can be refined from yeast.

If you type in beta-glucan into PubMed¹ the data base for the National Centre for Biotechnology Information, the open database for the U.S. National Library of Medicine, you get 10,841 references and for beta glucan 1-3, 1-6 you get 574. This type of beta-glucan – mostly derived from the cell walls of natural brewers yeast (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae – 94,345 references on PubMed) – is known to provide a robust and effective modulator effect (boost) to the innate immune system. Indeed it is generally accepted² that this is the most effective immuno modulator available.

What does this mean?
