On Monday evening I was lucky enough to take my daughter, my friend and her daughter to the VIP opening event of Winter Wonderland Manchester at Event City. I attended the event last year so knew that we would have a ball. My friend had never been to Winter Wonderland but had mentioned that she would love to go. She was ecstatic when I invited her and her daughter to share the experience with us.
We both live close by so had planned to both drive separately and meet in the car park at 6.20 in preparation for the 6.30 start. With it being so close to Christmas there was a little traffic around the Trafford Centre, but it did not delay us too much. Parking is free and there were plenty of spaces to choose from.
From the moment we entered our girls were captivated by the magic of the event, their faces lit up and they skipped off to begin their evening of fun and frolics. From walking through a shower of foam snow to the Circus show at the rear end of the holding space, there is something for everyone of all ages.
Our first trip was to the back end of the of the event, past all of the people queuing to get on rides and to the rides with no queues whatsoever. We then watched the Elsa and Anna (Frozen) show but our girls quickly wanted to go back on the rides so we didn’t watch the whole show. We made our way around an abundance of rides, perfectly fitting for our 6 year old girls. They seemed to be having an amazing time, going on the fun house over and over whilst my friend and I stalked out the fudge stall (which was absolutely delicious).
The event itself is huge and is advertised as the biggest indoor Christmas theme park, and I cannot argue with that. This time last year my friend and I took our girls to an outdoor theme park in horrendous rain, so it was such a relief this year to take them to such a warm, fun filled, well thought out indoor theme park.
There are many places to eat at the of the event, close to the main stage and again close to the entrance. Some of the food on offer included: a chip stall, Chinese noodles and sweets stalls. We had eaten tea before we left so did not sample the food but as mentioned above we did try the fudge, which was reasonable priced and had an amazing selection.
The girls makeover stall which had grown in size since last year was a very popular haunt for many little girls, offering glitter make up and headband. We bought our girls a sequin headband each and at £3 or 2 for £5 was very good value for such pretty items. We bought our girls matching headband to which they were delighted.
Each session lasts around 4 hours, but with it being a school night we left at around 9.15 with two very upset girls who just wanted to stay and play all evening.
Winter Wonderland is excellent value for money and is open until 1st January (excluding Christmas Day).
We all had a lovely evening and Winter Wonderland definitely delivered again this year.
