I recently had the great pleasure of attending the brand-new show ‘You Are Here!’ at the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium. The show combines live theatre with the spellbinding experience of the 360° dome planetarium.
The show starts with the introduction of two ladies from WOW Tours who turn up to a lecture expecting to see their professor only to find he has disappeared, and so too have all the stars. WOW Tours then whisk you away on an adventure of the universe, discovering the different planets and stars of the solar system as they try to put them back in place and, ultimately, find the professor.
The two ladies, I found, had a great way of interacting with the audience – thoroughly engaging the imagination of the younger ones as well as the adults. The mixture of live theatre and planetarium show was a perfect combination keeping even the youngest audience members interested. The 360° dome visuals were stunning, with unbelievably realistic views of the night sky. The show is only 30 minutes long and this went by in a flash which left me wishing it would go on just a little bit longer. All in all, a wonderful and educational trip through the universe.
You Are Here is showing until Sunday 4th of November with two shows a day and three on the weekends. Tickets can be purchased with or without general admission to the Science Centre. The show is also touring to Birmingham and Leicester, then returning to Winchester next year. I would advise visiting the Science Centre too as there is so much happening it’s well worth a visit – all next week they have their fireworks and fairgrounds event as well as film screenings and lots more. I would definitely recommend this as a great family day out.
Tickets cost from £5.50.
