Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is, indeed, a classic and one of my favourites! There are numerous variations surrounding the traditional Christmas tale, however, this was my first experience of a musical version. We were at the New Theatre in Cardiff for the show.
In short, amazing! I have seen several productions by the Orbit Theatre and must say, whilst they always do a fabulous job, this was, by far, the best I have seen.
The production follows the, time-honoured storyline, whilst injecting the charisma of song and dance.
The staging worked extremely well, transporting the viewer from scene to scene with ease.
The cast pulled out all the stops. David Stephens, portrayed the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, destined to have his cold heart thawed, extremely well and his vocals were outstanding. His performance was matched by the engaging and believable acting skills of Daniel Ivor (Bob Cratchit) and Tiny Tim (Hugo Morgan). I was also particularly impressed with Joe Green’s depiction of young Ebenezer, however, my favourite performance of the evening came from Matthew Preece (Ghost of Christmas Present), such a humours, lively and heart-warming performance, representing the kind of Christmas we all desire.
The costumes were colourful and the choreography of the whole cast was second to none. Congratulations must also go to the Orbit Theatre Orchestra, without whom, the show would not be the same and finally the young people’s ensemble.
I would highly recommend the show, perfect for kick starting your festive session!
Excellent value for money and definitely worthy of 5 stars!
Tickets cost from £10 to £22 (booking fees may apply).
