We spent Saturday night (9 February 2019) at the newly opened (December 2018) Ashford Town Centre Travelodge.
The hotel is perfectly situated for Ashford International train station where you can be whisked away to not only London, but France and Belgium in under 2 hours. It is also right opposite a shopping mall and cinema in a newly refurbished part of town so there is plenty to do in the vicinity.
You enter on the ground floor with the 24 hour reception on first floor level accessed by either stairs or one of two lifts. There is not any onsite parking but a short distance away is the Elwick Place car park where you can get a discounted rate of £7.50 for 24 hours or just £1.00 for overnight up until 9.00am. There is also plenty of other parking nearby including the long stay for those travelling from Ashford International.
We had booked a family room for two adults and one child. The room had a double bed and one single in it, which was already made up, and kettle, mugs, tea/coffee and milk were all provided. The en-suite bathroom had both a bath and shower which was fabulous, shower only rooms are always a nightmare with my little one. It was super clean and fresh and came complete with shower gel and hand wash from dispensers and 3 large fluffy towels together with one hand towel.
The room was very cold when we entered but on turning the air conditioning/heating up to max, it wasn’t at all noisy, it soon warmed the room. We had a corner room which had wrap around windows overlooking the pedestrian area which made the room really light and bright and made for great people watching.
We had prepaid dinner and breakfast included in the room rate so headed straight down to the restaurant. It was fairly small but warm and clean and the menu had plenty of choices for everyone. Pre booked prices are £12.50 per adult for two courses, with children eating for free which saves at least £4.00 per person, so well worth doing. My husband went for a burger, I tried to eat healthy with a chicken Caesar salad and my son chose pizza. Despite the restaurant being busy the meals came quickly and the portions were generous. By this time my son was feeling very sleepy and so I asked if I could take the puddings to the room. The waiter generously offered to bring them to the room when they were ready which I thought was above and beyond but so helpful with a tired child. We all had ice cream based deserts, and they arrived at the room just as we had got my son ready for bed, a perfect end to our meal. He soon dropped off to sleep and we watch the wall hung tv which was more than adequate for a couple of hours viewing.
The beds were nicely firm and comfortable and we all slept well, showered and set off for breakfast. Unfortunately a very large party booking had arrived all at once without pre booking breakfast so nearly all the chairs and tables were full and the food was disappearing as quickly as the breakfast staff could fill it up which meant a bit of a wait for food. The staff were obviously doing all they could to get food to people as soon as they could even bringing it direct to the table as it was ready. I really felt for them as it obviously wasn’t normal. A few more family sized tables would be preferable though as there were only four or five, the others had two chairs more suited to couples.
Check out was simple and quick and throughout the whole period we were there every member of staff was engaging, smiling, helpful and willing to go the extra mile for your comfort. I could not fault them in any way.
