Splendor is a game where you take on the role of a rich merchant during the Renaissance. You have to collect resources to acquire mines, transportation methods and artisans who will allow you to turn raw gems into beautiful jewels. The overview of the game is during the game, players take gems and gold tokens in order to purchase development cards, which are worth prestige points or bonuses. When a player has collected enough bonuses they will receive a visit from a noble, then once a player has collected 15 prestige points the winner is declared.
I think this game is a brilliant game, especially if you like a game that requires you to use strategies and that you need to think about. It is very easy to set up and does not require much space. The playing cards are very well made of a very good quality laminated card. The tokens are plastic, but good quality too. The noble cards are made of thick cardboard and all are decorated with colourful drawings drawn in the style of the Renaissance era. The rulebook is very detailed, but easy to follow. The game is recommended for children aged 10+ and adults and is for 2-4 players. Game play can be quite short, with 30 minutes stated on the box, but this can vary on how long you like to consider your next move. This game can be played anywhere and is small enough to take with you and play wherever you are.
I enjoyed learning how to play this game and then playing the game with my friends. One enjoyed it, as she likes games that you have to think about and my other friend said she liked it, but she preferred other games more.
I myself would highly recommend this game and think it would make a good gift for any occasion. I would give it 5/5.
