Betws-y-Coed, Snowdonia

The Best Western Waterloo Hotel and Lodge is in the heart of the picturesque Snowdonia countryside. Found in the easily accessible location of Betws-y-Coed on the A5 there is ample parking, great sized rooms and amazing views with the venue set in this mountainous district. Its location and layout means it’s perfect for a short romantic break or a longer family stay, taking in the sights and fresh air.

I stayed here with my young son and upon arrival we were greeted warmly both by the reception team and bar staff. We were just in time for dinner but decided instead for a snack in the bar (which was open to children) and a hot drink on a cold February evening. The bar is spacious and well-staffed complete with a log fire, although sadly this wasn’t lit on the night. You can choose meals from the bar menu as long as there are staff still in the kitchen (up until about 8.45pm).

We had a twin room which was incredibly spacious with two single beds in the main bedroom area with TV, storage unit, comfy chairs and table. On the way to the bathroom there was a further small area, with ample, built in wardrobes, a desk, tea and coffee making facilities and hair dryer. The bathroom was a good size, with twin sinks (so two people can get ready together), shower and bath. The hotel is also Eco-friendly and environmentally conscious. Our only disappointment when we arrived was that the room was really very cold, which I was able to ‘fix’ with turning on the radiators, which had been turned off. We did notify reception who sent up a maintenance person but the room had started to warm up in the short time that took.

After a comfortable night’s sleep, in the morning we were met by staff in The Bridge restaurant, again amply sized complete with conservatory, set alongside nearby hills and countryside. We were shown the breakfast arrangements, where there was self-service hot breakfasts, toast making facilities, pastries, cereal and fresh juices. Hot tea and coffee were brought to the table. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing stay, our main wish was that we could have stayed longer.

The hotel offers peace and tranquillity away from a busy world but is still within driving distance from several local attractions. A highly recommended visit for anyone looking to get away on their own, as a couple or for a family holiday.
