That feeling of excitement and intrigue, when finding an unexpected envelope on the door mat was excelled when I opened it and pulled out a silver coloured square card bearing the words ‘Buy a Gift’. I opened the fold and discovered a lovely looking card detailing the experience that had been purchased. The card also gave the instructions on how to book, a voucher card and terms and conditions. I logged onto the web address given and easily found all the details I needed. I found the hotel I wished to book, and phoned them to book my room. The experience excludes some dates so be aware of this before buying. The booking process was easy, it was all done via phone or email directly with the hotel. If you want to buy a last minute gift then you can chose to have the voucher sent via email, which is a fantastic service.
The hotel I chose was Mercure Stafford South Hatherton House Hotel, a 3 star hotel located in the market town of Penkridge. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly reception team who efficiently checked us in. The hotel room was what you’d expect from a 3 star hotel, comfy with nice modern décor, the bathroom has everything you’d need.
We made use of the leisure facilities, a sauna, steam room and pool (there is also an extensive gym but we didn’t use this), overall the facilities were good, if a little dated, the pool area in particular is looking a little grubby. The rest of hotel felt more modern and certainly clean and tidy, all the staff we spoke to were helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed a good breakfast, fresh food, served to order, with all the extras you’d expect. I can recommend the Eggs Benedict! The restaurant staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient.
Penkridge is a large village, just a five-minute walk from the hotel, with a variety of shops and eating places, we had a lovely cream tea at a café called Kaffeine on Market Street. We also ate at The Littleton Arm for dinner, which I would highly recommend; the food was extremely good and very reasonably priced.
For the purposes of this review I accessed the buyagift.com website and went through the process of buying this ‘Unusual Escapes Getaway’. Overall I found the website easy to navigate. Firstly I had a browse through the gifts available, there’s’ a lot to chose from, and at varying prices and for varying tastes; from driving experiences to spa days, you will certainly find something to suit anyone. I narrowed my search down to ‘Short Breaks’ and ‘Unusual Escapes’ and found the voucher option, from this point forward the buying process was extremely easy. After purchasing, the lucky person will receive their voucher in the post (or email if you’ve left it too late to post), then can log onto the buyagift.com site to contact the experience provider and book a convenient date.
I would certainly use buyagift.com, in fact whilst browsing for this review I chose several presents for family and friends.
