Last night saw the kick-off of the panto season at the Scottish Events Campus (SEC) in Glasgow. The Armadillo is a spectacular backdrop for this year’s offering of Cinderella.
Directed by Jonathan Kiley and written by Alan McHugh and Jonathan Kiley, Cinderella stars The Krankies as Buttons and Baron Hardup and Gavin Mitchell and Jonathan Watson as the Ugly Sisters, Hinger and Minger!!
Following the traditional rags to riches story Cinderella, played by Frances Thorburn, meets and falls in love with Prince Charming (Keith Jack) with the help of her fairy godmother (Gemma Wilson).
Hinger and Minger graced the stage in one extravagant and outrageous costume after another… Mitchell and Watson embraced their alter egos and seemed to enjoy the show as much as the audience.
The Scottish comedy duo The Krankies return to panto at the SEC after a few years elsewhere. Still going strong after 40 years in the industry, their rapport and banter are panto gold. Wee Jimmy Krankie as Buttons assists Cinderella’s path to true love in his own unique way.
The combination of elaborate scenery, glitzy costume and special effects result in a spectacular show which is over two hours of pure escapism.
The SEC is situated on the side of the Clyde. It is easily accessed by car with a multi storey car park on site. The Armadillo is accessible with lifts and the stalls, where we were seated, is on one level. The seating was very comfortable and spacious and the visibility excellent. There are bars and snacks available in the foyer.
Cinderella is certainly the way to get into the Christmas spirit. It is a laugh a minute but definitely aimed at the older audience – our teenagers thought it was hilarious!!
Tickets cost from £18.15 (booking fees may apply).
Cinderella is at SEC Armadillo in Glasgow from 12-30 December 2018, for more information or to book tickets visit www.sec.co.uk or call the box office on 0844 395 4000.
