We had a Spanish supper planned with family, so a bottle of Spanish Codorniu Rosado Brut Cava, seemed to be the ideal choice for an aperitif with our Tapas.
Following the satisfying “pop” of the cork, where I managed to not spill a drop, the delicate pink fizz gave off a pleasant subtle fruity aroma, specifically strawberry. The Cava was dry and light on the tongue, and despite the multitude of very delicate bubbles, did not appear to be too fizzy nor was there any lingering aftertaste.
This was not a complex drink at all, and I can imagine it being enjoyed by young couples or larger groups of friends in many different situations. Although we had this in the depths of winter, with howling snow gales outside – it made us think of warmer times, and enjoying this in the afternoon sunshine.
At £9.99 I would probably consider buying this for a gathering as a fun alternative to Champagne.
Available to buy from Tesco, Majestic, Co-op & Waitrose.
