Countess Wear Exeter Review

Countess Wear

I visited the Beefeater at Countess Wear in Exeter on Tuesday 10th July 2012 with my wife and our friends Kevin and Sally.

The venue is warm and inviting and our waitress, Jo, was a pleasure all evening. The restaurant was pretty quiet but the service was brilliant all night from Jo and the drinks team who were refilling the bottomless fizzy drinks.

The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. I'm a vegetarian and there were 3 or 4 main course choices for me that were appealing. We all settled on the saver menu – 2 courses for £11 or 3 for £14. We all started with two courses but we were able later to add the puddings and still receive the discount, which was a nice surprise.

For starters three of us had mushrooms and one a prawn cocktail. The food came quickly which was much needed, as it was 8pm on a work night. The main courses were two steaks, a salmon fillet and a pepper tart – again all very tasty and everyone enjoyed, but there was the huge added bonus of bottomless chips! I have never heard of that before but it was a welcome treat. Jo kept the sauces flowing and we did enjoy an extra bowl of chips between us. There's a massive range of sundaes to choose from for pudding which is perfect after bottomless chips!

We all had a great evening in a lovely setting with really enjoyable food. Everything about the experience made me want to go back and I've since heard they do a great breakfast too, so it could be one for a Sunday morning very soon.

I highly recommend the Beefeater to anyone who enjoys hearty, honest food. It was a very pleasant environment to enjoy good company in and all topped off with a fantastic waitress.
