Digital Forehead & Ear Thermometer
Reviewed by Emma Bradley
I recently reviewed the Lloyds Pharmacy Digital Forehead and Ear Thermometer.
The design of this thermometer is very smart, it’s small enough to pop in a bag or keep in the medicine cabinet and easy to hold, which is especially useful when trying to take the temperature of a wriggly baby. It is incredibly easy to use, with a double cap system, remove the first cap for the forehead thermometer and remove the 2nd cap for the ear thermometer. I have used both functions several times on different members of the family and only found a very slight variance in the readings.
The thermometer has a useful digital display on the front with the time and date – it stores temperature readings so handy for monitoring during illness, it also notes whether the reading was from the forehead or ear. In addition it has a talk back feature – I didn't really use this and switched it off almost immediately but I can see how it could be useful for those that struggle to read the display screen.
I was suitably impressed with his dual purpose thermometer until I realised it seems to eat batteries, even with the talk function switched off. The fact that the buttons are all on the outside and are easily knocked combined with no off switch doesn't help this problem. The thermometer uses 1 CR2032 battery.
I would love to give this thermometer a higher rating as it really is simple and convenient to use but the poor battery performance would make me reluctant to keep permanently in my first aid kid as I would be worried the battery would have run down by the time I need to use it.
