Orchard Toys Big Alphabet Jigsaw Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot

I am a massive fan of anything educational and love the Orchard Toys range of games. They have such a great variation available.

My 3 year old twins love singing the alphabet song, so I was delighted to be sent this Big Alphabet Jigsaw to review. The puzzle itself has ideal sized large pieces, great for little hands to grip onto. It is good quality and has 26 pieces, one for each letter of the alphabet. It is approximately 61 x 42cm in size when put together. The age on the box is 3-6 years.

We have kept it simple so far as both of my twins are behind with their speech. I tend to say where’s the mouse etc. and then reinforce which letter it begins with. They find me the piece and take turns to place it in the correct place with a bit of prompting from myself. As I write this review, both of my twins are walking around on top of the puzzle singing the alphabet song.

The box is extremely useful.  On the back are suggestions of what you can ask your children whilst doing the activity. It’s split out into sections as follows:

As the jigsaw is being completed;

encourage number skills
encourage literacy
encourage discussion

All of the above suggestions give the puzzle so much play value. I hope to use more and more suggestions as my boy’s speech and comprehension further develops.
