My twins love robots, so I was delighted to receive the Silverlit Robo Chameleon to review. The toy arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. The box itself clearly showed the functions of this clever little robot.
The Robo Chameleon is suitable for age 3-8 years +. It is a “food” guzzling, colour changing, walking robot. It has a really funky design and parts light up with an LED, which change colour at the push of a button. In fact, there are 10 different colours. It is very easy to control with the remote control, and both the eyes and tail move as this cute little character walks. You can use the remote control to move in 4 different directions.
It comes with magnetic bug tokens/pebbles, aka “food”. Then, when any food is spotted you walk towards it, aim and shoot (simply press catch on the remote control) to eat the “food” with its long tongue, which is then stored in its mouth. It can also pick up other small metallic objects such as paperclips.
The last button on the remote changes the colour of the LED so that he can blend in with its environment. My favourite is the blue, but it’s fun changing from colour to colour.
What’s lovely about the toy is that it doesn’t have to be played with as a standalone toy. One possibility would be to build a home for Robo Chameleon out of building blocks and to manoeuvre the robot into its home at the end of a play session. Robo Chameleon has had great fun exploring the ground floor of my house.
The robot itself requires 4x AA batteries to work and the remote requires 2x AAA batteries.
This robot has provided hours of hilarious fun and I can see it providing many more as you can hide the magnetic “food” around the house while the children walk their robot around in hunt of their prey.
This item would make a perfect first robot Christmas gift idea.
