Stomp at the Mayflower Theatre Southampton Review

16-19 August 2017

Me and my other half we thrilled to be going to see Stomp at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

There is a very convenient car park a 5-minute walk away from the theatre that’s only £2 all evening.

We arrived and took our seats in the stalls, which gave us a brilliant close up view of the stage. I think most people know of Stomp and that they play music out of bins and brooms, so I thought I knew what to expect, but boy was I in for a surprise – the music was amazing and not at all what I expected. For starters, they came out with the brooms and made music of so many different sounds all from a broom and with so much humour, it was hilarious throughout and they had the whole audience laughing out loud. How they made it so funny without saying a single word just goes to show how intelligently it’s been put together. I particularly enjoyed the part with the lighters and the way they lit up it sequences it was pure magic.

It was faultless throughout and had everything from toe tapping music, lots of laughs and audience participation, which was lots of fun. I think this is a real family show that everyone of all ages will enjoy.

The show is 1hr 45 min with no interval and the time just flew by. This is by far the best show I think I’ve ever seen and they definitely had the entire audience captivated from start to finish and was by far better than I expected.

Stomp has been touring for 26 years and has played in 55 countries to more than 12 million people including the likes of Steven Spielberg, Dawn French and Michael Jackson to name a few, which just goes to show how well loved and enjoyed the show is. I would definitely recommend to anyone to go see this you won’t be disappointed.

The Mayflower is always a joy to visit with lovely helpful staff and clean facilities, we had a wonderful evening.

Rating: 5/5
