The Addams Family spans generations, from the TV show of the 60’s to the movies of the 90’s that are still well loved today. The stage production of The Addams Family is currently at the Bradford Alhambra and it was lovely to see an audience ranging from young to old in attendance.
The Addams’ are iconic characters and it is only right that iconic and talented stars play them. The cast ranged from well-known television stars such as Samantha Womack (recognized by me and a lot of others as her previous name of Samantha Janus) as Morticia, Les Dennis as Uncle Fester, to stars more known for their stage work such as Carrie Hope Fletcher playing Wednesday.
The musical centers around Wednesday Addams’ relationship with a ‘normal’ boy, and the chaos that ensues when the two families decide to meet for the first time. The stage is set in the Addams’ mansion and an appropriately spooky atmosphere is created through the use of creepy props, moving portraits and of course an appearance or two from ‘thing’.
All the cast were amazing, but I do have to single out Carrie Hope Fletcher who has such an amazing stage presence and belts out her songs with an amazingly strong voice. I also particularly liked the eclectic ensemble, each of which were extremely talented in their own right and integral to the story. Also, who knew Les Dennis could play such a convincing bald and pasty Fester!?
Full of tongue in cheek jokes, extremely catchy and well-written songs, a fantastic live orchestra and superb acting I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and would highly recommend The Addams Family to everyone.
The Bradford Alhambra is easy to find and close to all major road networks and public transport.
