1962, at the height of his fame, Alfred Hitchcock was working on a new film after his successful Psycho. The title of this new film was The Birds. Hitchcock loved blonde actresses and cast an unknown fashion model, Tippi Hedren, to be the star and signed her to a 7 year contract.

The Girl shows Hitchcock (Toby Jones) take an unknown fashion model Tippi Hedren (Sienna Miller) and turn her into a film star but his obsession with her ruins both their careers.

Overall, I found this a very fascinating film to watch. Everybody knows who Alfred Hitchcock is and what a great film director but this film shows him in a new light. His obsession with Hedren and his belief that he could win her love was extraordinary and when he couldn’t get his own way was a cruel, spiteful and sadistic man.

With great performances from Jones and Miller along with Staunton who plays Alma Hitchcock (his wife) this is a very engrossing film. Whether you are a Hitchcock fan or not, and I am not, this is a great story of England’s most renowned film director and his obsessive, cruel behaviour and how he used it on film.

I would highly recommend it, before watching it I was convinced I would not enjoy it but I have to say it is one I would watch again.
