Tilly and the Blue Pearl by Angela McAllister Review

Reviewed by Emma Booth

My daughter couldn’t wait to read Tilly and the Blue Pearl when it came through the post the other day. This story is from the Blue Early Reader range and is aimed at ages 5-7 years. The author is Angela Mcallister who has written over sixty books and it has also been beautifully illustrated by Maxine Lee.

The story is all about a mermaid named Tilly who gets herself in a spot of trouble while out looking for a birthday present for her friend and how she makes a new friend on her journey back from a shipwreck. The story is full of exiting characters like Sparkle the Seahorse , the Mermaid Queen and her four princess daughters, the Giggling Jellyfish and more. My daughter is 5 and she found this book a bit above her reading level so we read this book together with her reading the bits that she could, she thoroughly enjoyed reading this with me and loved the pictures of this underwater world of shipwrecks and seaweed that really captured her imagination.

I would definitely buy more of the blue reader books as I think the way they’re written is in such a way that they want to learn to read them and they are just the right length so that they don’t lose interest in the story.
